This course lays the foundation for most of the other courses available on this website. It provides a comprehensive introduction to the various building blocks of knowledge needed for a deeper study of any aspect related to the solar energy industry.
It begins with the basic science of solar energy, such as the properties of the Sun and its radiation, as well as the science behind the generation of solar power. It then continues on to Sun-Earth geometry and the basic calculations required for estimating the total solar energy available at a location.
Lastly, it introduces in detail the two predominant methods of harnessing solar energy: Solar Thermal and Solar Photovoltaic. It talks about the various technologies, terms and terminologies in each, as well as their global and India specific scenario, even touching upon the associated institutional mechanisms.
This course is meant both for students/professionals wishing to enter the solar industry, as well as experienced professionals wishing to deepen their knowledge of solar energy.
